Fallujah
Well, it looks like the major operations in Fallujah are starting to wind down. Just to offer some counterpoint to most of the stupid comments and armchair-quarterbacking I've seen I offer this explanation of the strategy and intent behind what we did. Read the entries just before that one as well, good perspective!
For a little more historical perspective, read this.
I know this may come as a shock to most of you, but the military leadership isn't the same as it was 35 years ago in Vietnam. Hell, almost all of the generals and admirals right now weren't even in uniform until after Vietnam ended. They came into the Army and changed it. Made it the professional force it is. They instituted leadership training, technical training, and a much more objective evaluation/promotion system.
This ain't yo' daddy's Army baby! Is it perfect? No, far from it. I can personally attest to that. Does it have leaders who know what they're doing? Yeah, it has some. War has a tendency to weed out those who can't hack it (Abu Gharib). Are the soldiers doing their best? Hell yeah!
What did you do for Veteran's Day?
Me, I made sure many thousand soldiers got 3 good, solid square meals. It may not be much, but I'm proud of doing my part.
